Information for schools and colleges
The Community Rail Partnership works closely with local schools, colleges and youth organisations in order to encourage a greater awareness of the line and its importance to the community.

If you or your school, college or organisation is interested in getting involved with the Community Rail Partnership, please do not hesitate to contact the CRP officer via our Contact Us page.
Pupils from St Stephens School in St Albans alight the train at Bricket Wood during their 'picnic special'.
We can arrange special trips and guided tours for school groups, and even provide transport for school trips. For instance, (above) children from St Stephens School in St Albans were treated to a 'excursion' and picnic by train to and from Bricket Wood, thanks to the CRP.
Pupils at all the schools along the route of the Abbey Line were treated to special sculture workshops with local artist John Spielman, sponsored by the CRP.
There are many aspects of the railway which can be incorporated into the curriculum, e.g. history, art, buying tickets, safety and interpretation of timetables.

For example, budding sculptors at schools along the Abbey Line got to put their creative skills to the test, when the CRP sponsored local wood sculptor, John Spielman, to spend a day with each of the six schools along the route.

Groups of students from How Wood Primary, Park Street C of E Primary, Watling View, West Herts College, St Peter’s School and Berrygrove Primary and Nursery worked with John to create a wood sculpture that represented their thoughts of the Abbey Line.

The pupils got hands on experience with wood craft skills and learnt all about the benefits of local rail travel at the same time.
