Getting from St Albans Abbey to St Albans City station

The map below shows the best route for walkers and cyclists, keen to avoid the steep Holywell Hill, to get between the two stations in St Albans. The walk takes about 20 minutes. By bike, this is about 7-10 minutes.

Instructions for walking between St Albans Abbey and St Albans City stations:

  • 1) Leave St Albans Abbey station at the end of the approach road and turn right
  • 2) Turn right again and walk down Prospect Road
  • 3) At the end of Prospect Road, turn left at a mini-roundabout into Cottonmill Lane.
  • 4) Continue along Cottonmill Lane, descend to a river bridge and up to another mini-roundabout
  • 5) Turn right into Old London Road
  • 6) Take the first left into Alma Cut
  • 7) When you emerge on to the main road (London Road), cross over and turn right
  • 8) At the roundabout, turn left and walk all the way along Alma Road
  • 9) At the end of the road, turn right at some traffic lights into Victoria Street
  • 10) Go over the railway bridge
  • 11) At the next set of traffic lights, turn left and descend into St Albans City station.
